France easily wins against Slovenia and opens door to semifinal

France is opening door to semifinal. They started Main Round with convincing 39:33 (22:14) win against Slovenia.

Already in the first half France decided winner of this match. They were just too good for Slovenians who couldn’t keep up with high rhythm French team had. Young Les Experts scored 22 goals in first half and in total were leading with eight goals.

Great opening secured France ten goal lead which was impossible to lose for them. Everything was working perfectly for French team unlike Slovenians who were having trouble in both attack and defense. However, until the end they managed to reduce deficit a bit.

Gael Tribillon was given award for the best player in French team while Grega Ocvirk was best among Slovenians.

Statements:

Eric Quintin, FRA (coach)

“We played nearly brilliant in first half and I’m really happy because I see that my players are growing up and playing better as the tournament is going further. That is what we wanted to see if they can do. Second half was strange but I’m proud of my boys. I hope that we will continue like this and grow in next matches.”

Gael Tribillon, FRA (player)

“It was a great match. We played awesome in first half but we weren’t as good in second half. Defense wasn’t as good and we conceived more goals. However, tomorrow against Denmark is new very important match. I want to win all matches here staring with Denmark tomorrow.”

Janez Klemenčić, SLO (coach)

“France deserved this win. They were better. We didn’t play half thing we talked about and arranged before match. We made a lot of mistakes in attack in first half. France scored eight goals from our mistakes so that decided the match. In second half we played a bit better but in general this was a disaster. If we are going to play like this tomorrow against Spain it’s going to be very, very tough.”

Grega Ocvirk, SLO (player)

“This was really hard game for us. I think we didn’t open first half like we wanted. We weren’t good in defense and in attack too passive. I think France deserved to win today. Tomorrow we need to play better in defense which will allow us to score easy goals from fast breaks.”
